With the development of 5G communication technology, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is ushering in a series of changes and improvements. Facilitated by the exchange of information amongst vehicles, IoV stands poised to revolutionize road utilization and enhance the overall travel experience. Some researchers try to encourage vehicles to actively report honest information through vehicle reputation management, but they do not consider the intelligence and selfishness of vehicles, and these solutions cannot meet the high reliability and low latency requirements of IoV. This paper introduces a blockchain-based reputation management scheme for IoV (hereafter referred to as BRM). First, we address the selfishness and intelligence of vehicles by designing a reward and punishment mechanism with the regular taxation mechanism. Second, considering the requirements of security and latency in IoV, we propose a message management scheme that takes multiple considerations into account. Third, the efficacy of BRM is substantiated through an extensive array of simulation experiments conducted within simulated traffic scenarios. Comparative analyses against conventional reward and penalty mechanisms reveal BRM’s commendable resilience against malevolent vehicular incursions and its capacity to effectively mitigate rational maleficence and self-interested behaviors exhibited by vehicles.
