Product-Matrix Construction of Minimum Storage Rack-aware Regenerating Codes

In data centers, storage nodes are typically organized in racks and the cross-rack communication cost is often much higher than the intra-rack communication cost. Minimum Storage Rack-aware Regenerating (MSRR) codes are special maximum distance separable (MDS) array codes that can achieve the minimum cross-rack repair bandwidth for single node failures. In this paper, we present an explicit construction of MSRR codes by employing the product-matrix framework. Our product-matrix MSRR codes have lower sub-packetization level than the existing MSRR codes.
