Cervical cytology, such as the Pap smear, has been a fundamental tool in the early detection of cervical lesions and the prevention of cervical cancer. However, the accurate and reliable detection of abnormal regions in cytological samples can be challenging, especially in cases of low-quality and low-definition images. In the field of cervical cytology, precise detection of regions of interest is crucial for the early and effective diagnosis of cervical cancer. In this study, we propose the use of the Difference of Gaussians method to enhance blob detection in cytological samples. This method allows for the identification and delineation of areas of interest, even in images with poor quality and definition. By adjusting the values of the standard deviation, the detection sensitivity can be tailored to the specific characteristics of each sample. This promising methodology has the potential to significantly improve the diagnostic process and contribute to earlier and more accurate detection of cervical cancer.
