IR sensors using echoic light intensity to figure the distance from an object are not common, and only a few numbers have been reported.Still, their inherently fast response is desirable for enhancing the real-time response of a mobile robot.Several low-cost IR sensors based on the intensity level of the reflected light have been reported. The sensors have poor range resolution and are only applicable for short distances. These sensors work well in detecting opaque objects that are within proximity. They are commonly used in automatic doors, elevators, and lighting systems. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to use.Sound waves are used to measure the distance of an object or surface by Ultrasonic sensors. These sensors are effective in detecting transparent or reflective surfaces and objects in environments with dust and smoke. They also have a high sensitivity to small objects and can detect them from long distances. They are ordinarily found in applications such as robotics, parking sensors, and obstacle avoidance systems. In this paper, we compare the accuracy of the Ultrasonic sensor HC SR04 and IR sensor GP2Y0A41SK0F using a system implemented by ESP8266 and Arduino IDE.
