Unraveling the Diverse Array of Edge Detection Techniques Employed in Image Analysis:An In-depth Exploration

Varsha Gautam, Surbhi Gupta · 2023

One of the goals of computer vision, specifically in image processing and analysis, is to interpret visual contents. Partitioning an image into object and backdrop is a crucial and difficult stage in image interpretation. Segmentation is the process of separating a picture into its component areas or objects from the backdrop in order to effectively read and identify content of it. Detecting edges is a crucial mechanism for image segmentation in this scenario. It also serves as the foundation for many other digital image processing approaches because it is such an important technique. The performance of several edge detection techniques, such as gradient based methods, nature inspired techniques, and wavelet transform methods, has been studied and compared in this article. The goal is to find a better approach for digital image edge recognition that works well for noisy images while also offering intense edges with a minimum chance of illusion.
