Blockchain technology and its applications are constantly evolving and becoming integrated with financial markets. It is a well-known fact that the cryptocurrencies have a large share behind this progress. Blockchain technology is becoming more comprehensive and more useful for financial markets by providing smart contracts, low transaction costs, and other applications. On the other hand, there are some irregularities and limitations regarding the effects of blockchain applications on financial markets. Financial markets also operate with risk factors. Therefore, financial operations require quality and efficiency policies. This chapter investigates the Blockchain applications in financial markets and consolidates the related literature in all aspects. Finally, the possible macroeconomic consequences of blockchain applications in financial markets and precautions that central banks can take are discussed.
