Analysis of Baseline Security Standards and Predictive Analytics for Cyber Supply Chain Attacks and Artificial Neural Network as a Proposed Solution
John Irungu, Anteneh Girma · 2023
Supply chain attacks remain one of the industry's most sophisticated and costly threats. The intrusion of the vendor's network leads to the exposure of critical Infrastructure and the disruption of services. Attacks such as Distributed Denial of Service and Malware attacks like Ransomware among others. This research paper evaluates the nature of supply chain attacks and the existing gaps in prevention and deterrence of these attacks. This paper is focused on applying predictive mechanisms using Artificial Intelligence at the gateway of the intended target infrastructure. The paper also assesses the state of preparedness by the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) Risk Management against Supply Chain attacks and the joint preventive roles that suppliers and clients can coordinate as a response to the supply chain attack. Recommendations for deterrence are highlighted in the evaluation's findings. This study proposes the use of artificial neural networks to build highly effective models that can detect software supply chain attacks based on set metrics on software supply chain network characteristics.
