One-Bit DOA Estimation of Coherent Signals

The utilization of one-bit quantization possesses substantial prospective application in both communication and radar systems, primarily due to its cost-effectiveness and reduced power consumption. As a fundamental component of signal processing, direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation with one-bit quantized samples has emerged as a pivotal area of research. However, existing literature has mainly concentrated on independent sources, neglecting the potential influence of dependent or coherent sources. This paper seeks to address this lacuna by introducing a novel one-bit DOA estimation method specifically designed for coherent signals. Initially, we propose a methodology for covariance matrix recovery that is founded upon a non-zero threshold, capable of restoring both diagonal and off-diagonal entries of the covariance matrix. Utilizing the recovered covariance matrix, we then apply the Enhanced Principal-Singular-Vector Utilization for Modal Analysis (EPUMA) technique to ascertain the signal DOAs. Numerical simulations substantiate the claim that our proposed method demonstrates superior performance in comparison to the one-bit Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) method for the estimation of coherent signal DOAs.
