This paper explores the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in healthcare, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize patient care. However, it raises serious concerns about the security and privacy of patient data. The paper thoroughly examines real-world case studies, including medical device hijacking, pacemaker recalls due to security vulnerabilities, vulnerabilities in insulin pumps, and ransomware attacks on healthcare systems, highlighting the vulnerabilities in IoT devices and their implications for patient safety and data security. The re- search underscores the urgent need for robust security measures and privacy safeguards in IoT device utilization in healthcare. Proposed strategies include strong encryption protocols, secure firmware updates, and stringent access controls for patient data. This study contributes to healthcare optimization and patient safety by addressing these security and privacy concerns, paving the way for secure IoT integration and the protection of sensitive healthcare information. Compared to other papers, its unique strength lies in its practical focus on real cases and actionable security recommendations, making it a valuable resource for healthcare stakeholders.
