Onboard Reconfiguration Method for Routing FPGA Programs in LEO Satellite Constellations

Liang Qiao, Wei Wu, Hongcheng Yan, Yong Xu · 2023

To enhance the agility of space network reconfiguration and onboard reliability, this paper introduces an onboard reconfiguration method for routing FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) programs tailored for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations. This approach establishes a closed-loop autonomous control system encompassing the entire onboard reconfiguration process, including reconfiguration data segmentation, telecommand instructions generation, RAM (Random-Access Memory) data verification, FLASH erasure, FLASH programming, and FLASH data validation. These steps ensure the reliability of the onboard reconfiguration process, with the capability to identify and correct bit errors throughout the entire process. Experimental results demonstrate that this method enables high-reliability onboard maintenance of FPGA programs, aligning with design requirements, and enhancing the onboard maintainability and scalability of space networks.
