Verification of the Possibility of Using a Smartphone with Matlab Mobile in Transport Monitoring Applications

This paper presents a system for continuous vibration recording using sensors in a smartphone and the MATLAB Mobile application. The study aims to compare two different ways of measurement: using a mobile phone for this task and a specialized shock recorder typically used for sensitive transport monitoring. The obtained analyses will allow to determine the usefulness of the mobile devices or their application for wider use in transport monitoring applications without the need for investments in expensive sensing and acquisitions equipment as well as specialized software. By using a wireless device with communication to the cloud (Matlab cloud), the mobile phone becomes an IoT devise capable of measuring and sending the data for analysis in real-time to the companies headquarters as well as to the driver to inform him of the transport condition and eventual need for changing the speed of the car.
