A Tubular Variable Reluctance Resolver With Single Coil Excitation Winding

Farid Tootoonchian, Fateme Zare · IEEE Sensors Journal · 2023

Transverse edge effect and longitudinal end effect are common reasons for reducing the accuracy of linear position sensors. Using tubular configuration leads to remove the first effect. However, that solution increases the destructive effect of the longitudinal end effect. In this article, a new configuration is proposed for the tubular variable reluctance (VR) resolver to suppress both longitudinal and transvers edge effects, simultaneously. In the proposed configuration, a single coil is used as the excitation winding and constant-turn, nonoverlapping coils are employed as signal windings. The influence of pole pitch value and the outer/inner stator configurations are discussed using 3-D time stepping finite element analysis. Finally, the prototype of the best configuration is built and the measured results approve the success of the developed sensor.
