Enhancing medical image security: a look into crypto-watermarking method via LabVIEW

Rim Amdouni, Mohamed Ali Hajjaji · 2023

This chapter presents a novel method for watermarking and encryption of medical images using the Haar Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The proposed system aims to securely embed patients' private information into medical images followed by encrypting the watermarked images using a chaos-based cryptosystem to enhance robustness. Our approach utilizes standard grayscale images for embedding patients' private data, with the insertion block placed immediately after the Haar DWT process. The encryption phase incorporates the SHA-2 hash function and the Rossler chaotic system for key generation, ensuring both confusion and diffusion for enhanced security. The system includes the transmission of watermarked encrypted data to the cloud, enabling authorized parties to securely access and retrieve the watermarked data. The successful implementation of the proposed system using LabVIEW on the MyRIO board demonstrates its practicality and functionality. Performance evaluation was conducted by subjecting the system to various attacks, including compression, noise, filtering, and geometric transformation. Experimental results showcased low distortion, high robustness in the watermarking process, and enhanced security in the encryption phase.
