Todd is a true luminary of the develop community, a highly respected thought leader and Fortune-500 board advisor, and just a great fella all around. It’s very common to use the fear of a security breach to solicit support for a new security product or program. A common-but-doomed tactic is to stress the potential financial losses the company might experience due to such an attack. One way to think of cybersecurity is that good security requires thinking about how systems can fail. The security organization had done a full investigation, identified the process issues and control failures that had enabled the breach, and identified solutions to prevent a similar breach from ever happening again. The sales and marketing teams would have loved the chance to tell customers about how much the author would have invested since the breach in protecting their valuable data.
