SafeMap: Using Emotions for Geographic Mapping of Safe Zones in the City of Detroit

This study explores the novel application of emotion detection using wearable devices to map urban safety zones in Detroit. By analyzing physiological signals indicating feelings of safety or distress, this research aims to provide actionable insights for urban planning and law enforcement. A further goal of the study is to dispel the perception of Detroit as an unsafe city which has remained a roadblock to efforts to revive the city. Finally, it is our hope that the proposed system can serve as a tool that can be used across other regions where perceptions around safety have stunted their growth.
