Anastasiya Savran-Wellscheid, Klaus Himpsl-Gutermann, Michael Steiner · Forschungsperspektiven · 2023

The shortage of skilled workers in technical and scientific professions, including IT, is more topical than ever in Austria. Despite the best job prospects, interest in apprenticeships, school branches and degree programmes in this field is still low. The urgency for action in STEM education is thus highlighted by high dropout rates in STEM-apprenticeships and STEM-qualifications. Based on the EU project RoboCoop we use the example of Educational Robotics including the basic didactic principle of Computational Thinking to indicate how pupils can be inspired for STEM topics through innovative, interdisciplinary teaching/learning settings, and derive recommendations for teacher training.
