Secure Medical Data Storage with Blockchain Technology
Olga Siedlecka-Lamch · Procedia Computer Science · 2023
This article proposes a hybrid medical data management model, combining traditional relational databases with blockchain technology. The proposed logical model can be implemented on regular post-relational database servers linked with blockchain networks or through cloud services. The model was implemented on an Oracle Database 21c server using blockchain tables as an additional layer of security. Diferent types of users are granted access to traditional and blockchain tables based on their roles and certificates. Although blockchain tables introduce some latency, they can be optimised by caching, indexing, clustering, and partitioning data. The article presents the use of blockchain tables in Oracle databases as a practical and secure solution for managing medical data, ensuring the security and privacy of data while adapting to the individual needs of medical facilities.
