A Study on the Paradigm Shift in the Validation of Automated Vehicles

Due to the increasing level of automation in vehicles, the complexity of the interaction between the vehicle and its surrounding systems is increasing towards a system of systems (SoS). At the same time, the amount of software in the vehicle is expanding, which entails development paradigms for software development. Current validation strategies are no longer suitable for efficient and effective approval of these vehicles. Hence, this paper identifies important challenges in the context of validation and proposes initial solutions.
