A Comparison of Sensing Technologies on a Room-Exit Detection System

This article describes four prototypes of a low-cost automatic system dedicated to room-exit detection in nursing homes. All implementations utilize BLE-beacon to identify the person of interest and alarm the caregiver about room-exit but differ in sensing technologies applied to detect motion direction. We experimentally evaluated the technologies in the same environmental conditions and compared the results in terms of accuracy, response time and implementation cost.
