Natural language processing (NLP) is a subfield of artificial intelligence and computational linguistics. It focuses on enabling computers to understand, interpret, and generate human language in a way that is both meaningful and useful. The primary goal of NLP is to bridge the gap between human language and computer understanding, allowing machines to process, analyze, and respond to natural language data. LLMs would not exist without the concepts and algorithms developed through NLP research over the years. Therefore, to understand LLMs, we need to understand the concepts of NLP.
