Towards the Automatic Adaptation of Stateful Microservices Applications across Edge and Cloud

The Edge/Cloud continuum is a promising infrastructure for deploying latency-sensitive collaborative applications. Many such applications are based on a collection of interacting microservices. Placing instances of the microservices involved in answering latency-sensitive queries can benefit local user communities across different edge locations. We focus in this Ph.D. project on the automatic placement and adaptation of microservices across the continuum, with a specific focus on stateful microservices and the sharding of their state over multiple, geo-distributed instances.
