Analysis of DDoS Attacks in 5G Networks

The fifth generation of mobile telecommunications standard (5G) as defined by 3GPP is currently under deployment (as of 2023) and is expected to serve as the backbone for several business verticals such as mobile communications, V2X, energy, finance, health, IoT/IIoT (Industrial IoT), AR/VR, etc [1], [3], [4]. It is essential that such a network is secure and accessible as many mission-critical applications rely on it. This paper deals with a major security threat in 5G networks that is, its vulnerability to DDoS attacks. A literature review has been conducted on similar research articles. We have utilized TETCOS NetSim™ network simulator software to analyse the performance impact and formulate possible countermeasures. Subsequently, we have also discussed a way to provide resilience towards such attacks using advanced MIMO configurations.
