Mobility Aware Computation Offloading in Fog Devices using Virtual Machine Migration

In the current era, it is observed that most of the devices used for computation are mobile and consume a vast number of exhaustive resources. Edge computing saves bandwidth and decreases response time by fetching computation and data storage closer to data sources. Enabling computation at the edge empowers companies to enhance their management and utilization of physical assets, as well as facilitate the development of novel interactive human experiences. However, after a mobile device offloads computation to an edge device, it may leave the range of the edge device. To tackle this, the best fog server selection model using weighted majority is proposed along with a VM migration model with computation migration and handoff strategies to subsequent fog servers based on users’ mobility which is simulated using MobFogSim, an open-sourced cloud simulation tool built on iFogSim.
