Low Noise Adaptive Digital Receiver for Doppler Sensor Networks

Jason E. Hodkin, V. Chandrasekar · IEEE Sensors Letters · 2023

Doppler sensor networks provide an alternative means to local-ize moving targets, while reducing microwave or millimeter-wave transceiver complexity with reduced data rates compared to conventional radar sensors. Doppler sensors are challenged by low frequency 1/f noise and the received signal structure is unknown a priori eliminating the option of matched filtering to improve signal to noise ratio (SNR) which is fundamental to conventional radar sensors. We present a low complexity digital receiver relying on a low-IF downconversion, low sample rate analog-to-digital converters (ADC) to overcome signal hazards for received Doppler spectra, and adaptive digital filtering to improve SNR.
