Failure Mechanisms Analysis for Integrated and Analog Position Sensors in Safety Relevant Automotive Use Cases
D. M. Todorović · 2023
Modern vehicle architectures are requiring accurate positioning determination in variety of systems and system elements. Some of safety relevant examples of the position sensorics usage could include (but not be limited to) electromotor actuation, steering systems, braking & acceleration, shifting mechanisms and other systems. Connecting point of all these systems is a requirement for reliable intended functionality [1]. This aspect of reliability [2] requires careful structural top-to-bottom analysis of the possible failure mechanisms and outcomes (potential violation of safety goals [1] that may happen on a system level. This white paper will present some of the state-of-the-art Hall-effect based architectures that are available on the market, evaluate some key properties, analyze possible failure mechanisms, and propose some of the effective safety measures that may increase diagnostic coverage.
