The Study of Automatic Programs Quality Analysis and Correction

Jong-Yih Kuo, Yu-Hsuan Lin, Ti-Feng Hsieh · 2023

If the logic error occurs during programming, verifying the execution process and ensuring the correctness of variable values can be time-consuming and require significant effort. Novice programmers often struggle to identify these logic errors on their own, often relying on assistance from others, which further consumes time and effort. Additionally, the current program upload system only indicates whether the test data has passed or failed, lacking any suggestions regarding logical errors. Therefore, offering students meaningful feedback on logic errors would significantly reduce the time spent searching for error causes. This approach would also facilitate more effective programming learning, enabling students to dedicate less time to error fixing and programming. This research aims to gather programming assignments uploaded by students in a programming course using a program upload system and extract error patterns from these assignments. Furthermore, it aims to develop a feedback system capable of detecting logic errors in programs and providing appropriate feedback. The system’s purpose is to minimize the time and effort invested by students and teaching assistants in resolving logic errors.
