Analysis of Formant Correlations in Emotional Speech – Do Formants Correlate?

This study probes new territory and aims to bring detailed evidence for the presence and specificity of formant correlations in speech. It demonstrates that formant correlations do occur in some circumstances and vary depending on the vowel position and emotion. The implication in phonetics is that a new method for speech analysis is established; in medical science, the formant correlation tool may help in diagnosis; in speech technology, it opens a new way of speech data compression.
