The operation and maintenance of the physical resources required for the production and national distribution of radio and television programmes are the function of the engineering division. RTE’s radio centre, which is accommodated on the same site as the television centre, has 13 studios with comprehensive facilities for presentation, talks, drama, discussions and small music groups. The switching centre serves both the radio and television production centres and handles all audio circuits for radio and television. It contains two control positions which can be used instead of the presentation studios when these are required for maintenance. The personnel administration department is responsible for recruitment of staff, maintenance of central personnel records and general staff welfare. RTE is statutorily required to advertise publicly for appointments to permanent posts in the organisation. The staff relations department is responsible for salary administration, for negotiations with trade unions and for dealing with grievances and disputes.
