Thermodynamic Analysis of Gaussian Network
Leslie R. G. Treloar · 2005
Abstract THE general significance of the thermodynamic study of the process of elastic deformation in rubberlike materials has already been discussed in Chapter 2, in which it was shown that from experiments on the temperature dependence of the stress in the extended state it is possible to derive the separate contributions due to the changes of internal energy and of entropy associated with the deformation process. The statistical theory in its. elementary form attributes the elastic stress solely to the changes in configurational entropy of the molecular network; on this basis, therefore, the internal energy contribution to the stress should be zero.
