Of maps and monkeys: an introduction to the maximum entropy method
Geoff J. Daniell · 1991
Abstract We present a tutorial introduction explaining why an approach like maximum entropy is essential in a wide range of problems in image and data processing. The simple ‘monkey argument’ and Bayes’ theorem are used to justify the use of entropy and a typical application is discussed which illustrates the philosophy of the maximum entropy approach.
