Abstract This book concerns itself with the electrical machines called stepping or step motors, covering their construction, principles, theory, driving techniques, and applications. To begin with we will survey the brief history and technological advancement of stepping motors. Various types of stepping motor are referred to in this chapter, but the structural details of the modern motors will be discussed in the next chapter.
