Dravet syndrome is a rare type of severe genetic epilepsy that typically arises during the first year of life and it does not respond well to antiepileptic medication. It has been linked with a mutation in the SCN1A gene, which encodes the α subunit of the voltage-gated sodium channel NaV1.1 resulting in an increase in neural circuit excitability and seizure onset. The aim of this work was to study the effect of transcranial static magnetic stimulation (tSMS) as a non-invasive, safe, and cost-effective way to reduce neural excitability in a mouse model of Dravet syndrome.
