Exploratory Data Analysis and Graphic Display

Abstract Graphics serve two general functions in the context of data analysis. First, graphics are a tool used to explore patterns in data before the formal statistical analysis (Exploratory Data Analysis, or EDA, Tukey 1977). Second, graphics communicate large amounts of information clearly, concisely, and rapidly, and illuminate complex relationships within data sets.
