Loss of poly convexity by homogenization

Andrea Braides, Anneliese Defranceschi · 1998

Abstract In this chapter we discuss the structure of the ‘homogenized integrands ‘. It is clear that convexity is preserved by the passage to the ┌-limit, and hence also after homogenization, while the homogenized energy density is always quasiconvex. We will also show here that polyconvexity properties, in contrast, are not maintained by homogenization.
