Mfpic Pictures

Alan Hoenig · 1998

Abstract I have a fondness for both METAFONT and MetaPost, and I hope therefore the reader has been duly impressed with the material in Chapter 13. But no matter how impressive the results of that Chapter , not everyone is in a position to spend the time necessary to master the META FONT or MetaPost languages. Furthermore, not everyone will have a need for all the power these tools provide. For that reason, the appearance of the mfpic package is welcome. The mfpic macros provide a TEX interface for METAFONT. An author includes drawing commands with a TEX-like syntax into the document. Processing the document file in the usual manner generates an additional auxiliary file, which is a METAFONT input .mf file. Thereafter, a mechanical set of procedures translates the META FONT file into a font, each character of which is one of the graphics. A final run of the document file through LATEX or TEX embeds the figures into the manuscript.
