Piecewise linear topology

Geoffrey Hemion · 1993

Abstract In this chapter a few of the methods which are developed in the theory of piecewise linear topology will be summarized. The conscientious reader might be well advised to consult one of the standard books on the subject. But broadly speaking, the idea is the following. In an ‘ideal world’ the subject of topology reduces to a process of examining elastic objects which can be stretched and deformed as we like. According to the rules of the game, scissors are not allowed.
