Unstable Interfacial Energies and Interfaces with Corners
Morton E. Gurtin · 1993
Abstract Suppose now that the interfacial energy is regular, hut not stable (cf. the last paragraph of Section 7.3). Then an admissible evolving interface must, by virtue of its smoothness, involve normal angles at which the evolution equations are backward parabolic. Two ways of overcoming this difficulty are to: regularize the evolution equations; allow corners that correspond to jumps in 0 across the unstable portions of .f(θ).
