On Syntax and Complex Words
Marit Julien · 2002
Abstract The last decades have witnessed the development of two competing lines of thinking about morphology and its relation to syntax. The schism stems from the trivial observation that morphology and syntax are seemingly separate domains of grammar which still to some extent must interact. For example, only words that carry certain morphosyntactic features will be acceptable in any given syntactic position. For a strict lexicalist, this is as far as the interaction goes (see, e.g., Di Sciullo & Williams 1987, Anderson 1992).
