Vague Language and List Construction

Abstract The transcribed extract above is from an episode of the American television program Seinfeld. It is one of the few instances I have observed in which a general extender and its meaning are actually dis cussed by those who use it. Notice that, for the speakers, there is a significant difference between the expressions go for a walk and go for a walk or something. These speakers actually conclude that the general extender has a major impact on what is communicated.
