The model of the paracrystal and its application to polymers

Wolfgang Wilke · 2000

Abstract The term ‘paracrystal’ was used by Rinne (1932) as a method of notation for liquid crystalline structures. Hosemann (1950a,b) introduced the ‘ideal paracrystal’ as a special model for the description of statistical defined lattice structures. Later, he discussed the ‘real paracrystal’ and summarized the ideas and results about para-crystalline structures in a book (Hosemann and Bagchi, 1962). Today, paracrystals can be classified as systems with quasi long-range order (QLRO). For these systems, the translational correlations decay according to a power law (Venkataraman et al.,1989).
