Abstract In a mystery, until the culprit has actually been apprehended, the detective can only examine the scene of the crime for clues. Similarly, until the experimenters actually catch the wimp, physicists can only study the wimp’s effect on the universe. Since the dark matter outweighs ordinary matter, the physicist detectives reason, the wimp must have had enormous impact on galaxy formation.
