A Markedness Model of Codeswitching

Abstract The previous chapter discussed the theory to account for code choices in general and its antecedents. Here the markedness model in relation to CS is presented. The model consists of a set of general maxims applying to any code choice. This chapter discusses their application to CS, and provides examples illustrating their realization.
