Pattern functions and transformations
Steven Cruickshank · 1998
Abstract We shall look at the properties of a number of important classes of function which are useful in modelling. In each case we shall emphasize that there is a ‘basic pattern’ function, which we may transform to other related functions by means of simple manoueuvres. These transformations will be demonstrated in general here graphically. This approach is intended to give a feel for how the mathematical solution to problems is found, rather than to give the ability actually to manipulate the functions.
