Racial And Religious Hatred

Abstract UK statute law contains a number of provisions limiting freedom to express views and ideas which involve race hatred. These are discussed below. In the remainder of this chapter we consider how and why the ECHR allows governments to adopt such measures, notwithstanding the right to freedom of expression in Article 10(1). We also consider how the European Court has approached the difficult issues which arise when the media report the views and activities of racists in the public interest.
