Celebrating the Art of Sound
Andrew Knight-Hill, Emma Margetson · Focal Press eBooks · 2023
Highlighting and bringing together the key findings of the research, this chapter outlines the four interlinked factors which underly a shift from objective to subjective framings of creative practice. Embracing subjectivity creates a shift in understanding which enables us to regard creative possibilities and multiplicity enables a more accurate reflection of creative practice. This allows an appreciation for process and the direct creative engagement with materials, which in turn allows for a de-centring of the technological and rules-based contexts. Practical applications of these four key areas are demonstrated with six action points: 1. Enable more open and honest exchange – sidestepping gatekeepers, 2. Encourage greater confidence and embrace experimentation, failure and discovery. 3. Promote the centring of the human over the technical. 4. Attend to creation for the other thinking about those who will perceive the work. 5. Argue for the inclusion of sound earlier in the collaborative creative processes, and 6. Open Access to historically less represented voices.
