Contract Testing in Microservices-Based Systems: A Survey
Manuel Leonardo Simosa, Frank Siqueira · 2023
Monolothic applications are being migrated to architectures based on microservices, due to its popularity, integration capacity and the development independence of each microservice. This migration requires new integration testing methods, ensuring reliable communication between microservices. This study is based on systematically identifying, analyzing and classifying publication trends, research topics, approaches, tools and challenges for communication between microservices, considering the use of contract tests. From an initial set of 496 articles, 25 of primary studies were selected, aiming to answer three research questions. As a result of this study, we have identified: (i) the research themes that characterize emerging approaches; (ii) the techniques and tools that can be used in various parts of the development cycle; (iii) the challenges of planning test cycles and facilitating the design of microservices architectures based on the study of contracts.
