De-combining to correct errors and confused constructions

Alison Wilcox · 2023

This chapter provides a guide to tackling student texts where there are confused constructions or long, overly complex sentences. De-combining the passage takes it back to its basic form and thus highlights the information and detail that the student is trying to include and connect. It helps to draw students’ attention to the presence of sentence run-ons or fragments. It enables students to tackle revising their text in a step-by-step process and to re-combine the original sentence into a series of connected sentences which make the information conveyed clearer.
