Activity Modeling and Detection for Emergency Response

Andrea Pugliese · 2023

Quickly reacting to situations where a specific sequence of events occurs is critical in a wide variety of scenarios, ranging from computer security to emergency response. Activity modeling techniques allow users to appropriately express the structure of critical sequences of events (the latter are usually named actions) they are interested in capturing. Activity detection techniques are instead aimed at efficiently identifying occurrences (instances) of activities in timestamped data representing actions that have occurred. In this paper, we provide a classification of several interesting approaches proposed in the past to tackle both the problems of activity modeling and activity detection. We also discuss potentially interesting directions for future research.
