5G in Healthcare: Revolutionary Use-cases and QoS Provisioning Powered by Network Slicing
Monika Dubey, Richa Mishra · 2023
The healthcare industry radically shifted from conventional hospitals to AI-based medical assistance that requires more intelligent equipment and fast internet connectivity. This paper briefly discusses the four potential use-cases of healthcare scenarios, including telesurgery, telemonitoring, teleconsultation, and connected ambulance. It is found these services have diverse service requirements and KPIs (bandwidth, latency, reliability, and throughput). For example, the connected ambulance has strict mobility requirements but mobility is not the priority in the case of remote surgery. Achieving this diverse requirement is not possible with the legacy network’s “one-fit-all” model. 5G-enabled network slicing (NS) plays a pivotal role in QoS provisioning. To deal with the above-mentioned issue, this paper proposed a QoS-aware NS-based model that could help to provide network flexibility. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated on the Mininet emulator.
