Controlling the Number of Spikes in FitzHugh–Nagumo System Under Periodic Forcing

In this paper we analyse the impact of time-limited periodic signal on FitzHugh-Nagumo system in excitable regime. We show that favorable combination of conditions for frequency and duration of the periodic forcing can lead to periodic spiking behaviour with controllable number of spikes. These results can be useful for realization of artificial neural networks based on FitzHugh-Nagumo systems.
